A quick update to the “what’s happening” page on wildabout An excellent photographic print company contacted me earlier in the week regarding links, and as I have been adding relevant photographic links to the site for some time (actually since Peter from identitybydesign showed me how it was done) I thought it may be an idea that the relevant companies could contact me via email with relevant updates to products and any special offers they wanted to share-so I am laying this out so I can copy and paste updates from emails quickly to this page and my blog (sadly not always as updated as I would like!!)-the blog can be found http://wildaboutphotography-wildabout.blogspot.com

A little about digital cameras, which from my old Minolta film bodies (taken over by Sony). Sony are now heading in the right direction, to challenge some of the more popular brands, with the introduction of cameras, such as the Alph700,and rumoured to be released shortly 24 megapixel Alpha900,of which more information can be found at phtoclubalpha -which is packed with news ,updates on alpha and Minolta Firmware upgrades for alpha systems are always worth checking for from Sony at www.sony.co.uk. A repair and service called JP Service solutions email: kmsupport@jpss.co.uk also come highly recommended, and are very knowledgable and helpful.
Another useful website, for spare parts and accessories is the Photostore photostore-uk
Another useful bit of software for people worried about digital noise at high iso or low light is called Neat Image found at neatimage note the free version only supports Jpeg and not raw or Tiff formats.
We now have the new blog up and running http://wildaboutphotography-wildabout.blogspot.com which I hope to update on a monthly basis. It will consist of a mixture of images relevant to what I have been up to that month, general nature/wildlife “ramblings”, as seen by me-Sony Alpha Camera news and as and when ,time permits ,Photoshop tips and tricks (these will be based around CS3, but I will try to ensure that they are available in earlier versions). Images can still be purchased direct from myself (can work out cheaper) via the down loadable order form. Some people have noticed PayPal has started to appear on some galleries, this is a very secure way to pay by credit card, and will be expanded to include other galleries during the early part of next year. Several new pages have now been added, ,including the Talks and Workshops page, and the image of the month I have kept a few captive bred Harvest mice, for photographic purposes, and as they breed at an alarming rate in captivity, I am myself organising a reintroduction scheme, as they are becoming very scarce in the wild through modern farming practises and habitat loss (I make money selling images of them-so it only seems fair to give a little something back).
Some of you who read my ramblings and look through my web site may have, or will over the next few months see several changes happening-One of which on this page, I can (after a very patient web designer Peter of identitybydesign explaining a certain few bits of HTML coding to me), now add live links which you can click and go straight to the relevant web site, whereas before you would have to copy and paste it into your own browser. Along other lines the site is now fully accepting payments for images via PayPal, and it is proving to be very popular-although those wishing to do so can still use the downloadable order form, which can be found on the contact link at the top of the home page.
People, as well as photographers who use the countryside have a responsibility to use it with respect I have a little ongoing project to watch/monitor a small group of Roe deer that live close to my home. I photograph them regularly on summer evenings and started to wonder where they where the rest of the year, is it me not visiting the area during the rest of the year –or do they move elsewhere in the spring or winter? So I thought I would spend a little of what spare time I have finding out. At present a doe has a fawn hidden in a particular area so I deliberately keep away, and don’t attempt to get close, and know from previous years, as the fawn gets a little older, it will appear feeding alongside its mother. Whilst I keep a distance, it disturbs me how many people (who know there are deer in this area) quite happily let dogs run loose and, allow the dogs to chase them. But to watch one evening as a couple walking a dog thought it would be fine to approach, dog off lead to see if they could find the fawn, I found unbelievably stupid. And in my slightly less than diplomatic way, pointed out, that the dog not only should be restrained, but they where maybe not actually bright enough to own a dog in the first place!!—countryside code
Harvest mice For a while now I have been involved in several schemes to reintroduce, or top up harvest mice populations, which have in many cases vanished from large areas of their former range, or have not coped well in a modern world. Most of these schemes involve Nature reserves, or areas of land managed for small mammals-where people are starting to realise these tiny creatures make for healthy populations of species such as Kestrels and Barn owls, where they are an important part of their diet .And although, along with other small rodents are at the bottom of the food chain, it is an important part they play to the species at the top of the chain. Land owners, or nature reserves, who may be interested in setting up such schemes, can find my details on the contact page of the wildaboutphotography website, and feel free to get in touch
Amazon adds, as you can see the site now carries Amazon adverts, in the form of “relevant content “for the nature of the site. You can however search directly any of Amazons products via the “search boxes” which have been placed on some of the pages (contact page, links page and the two Vodaphone article pages on the front (or home page) It is not like Google ads, pays per click,-if someone searches and makes a purchase from a link on wildaboutphotography –I get a little commission-A kind of Carl does catalogue thing if you like!!
